The Pug.

The pug is of Chinese origin, dating back to 400 B.C, they were owned by the emperors of china. The pug was held in high esteem and protected by palace guards. The pugs even had their own servants to tend to their desires and needs. The pug was also greatly loved by the Buddhist monasteries in Tibet.

The pug was referred to as Foo dog, or hand dog because of the Himalayn legend that revealed a belief that if a man handled a young eagle right after it hatched it would turn in to a pug.

The pug was brought to Holland approximately 350 years ago by the crew members of the Dutch East Indies Trading company. They called them the Chinese mastiff, because of the resemblance. When the pug reached England it was called the Dutch Mastiff and then finally got its name the pug. The pug was immediately popular on its arrival and it was the “in” dog for women to promenade along with. The pug was also popular in Italy, France and many more which shows today because they are still so popular.

Personality:

The pug requires almost constant contact with those it loves. A pug is never happier than when right in the middle of family activities, romping with children. The pug will always rise to the occasion in greeting, visiting dogs with the idea of friendly play and will enjoy and fit in with other pets in the home if properly introduced.

The pug wrinkle:

The exaggerated wrinkle the pug has above its nose requires special care. The depth of the wrinkle makes it a catch all for food, and must be kept clean if it is kept clean there will not be a problem, just once a week with a pet wipe give it a gentle clean and there will be no problems.

The pug tail:

Another of the charming features of the pug dog is the delightful double curled twisted tail. It should be carried up over the back when the dog is in normal stance. At rest it has been known to uncurl, but that is normal.

Overall:

The pug is simply a stunning little dog, its personality is second to none and once you have experienced a pug you will never want another breed. They are simply unique and a pleasure to have!
